Weekly Roundup, 16-22 June 2013

With Bromley Park Run off again, PWRs ventured to 10 different venues in search of their Saturday morning fix. Bexley, Cambridge, Dulwich, Greenwich, Hackney Marshes, Riddlesdown, Shorne Woods and Winchester all played host to our runners with the largest number, 7, running at Orpington. Most had only been there once before for the muddy Mob Match so unsurprisingly there were a number of personal PBs set for that venue. So well done to Stuart Scott, Paul Leng, Jenny Leng and Natalie Compton, with Jenny also being the first Lady overall. And a big congratulations to Michelle Kirk who successfully completed her first Park Run ever.

Eleanor Day was busy over the weekend bonding with her dad over the rugged “The Wall” ultramarathon along Hadrian’s Wall. Edward got injured on the first day but that wasn’t going to stop Eleanor dragging him along the rest of the course and they successfully completed a mind-blowing 70 miles in 19 hours 31 minutes and 31 seconds! Well done to both and congratulations to Eleanor on then picking up an award for her endeavours just two days later at the annual PWR awards evening. Very well deserved!

Six PWRs contested the hilly Beckenham 10k. I thought I was the first PWR home only to read later on that Huntley Roberts had sneakily run as a Dartford Harrier and had set a new PB with a superb 39.56! Paula Dimond was the first PWR lady home and there was a new 10k PB for Alison MacOwan. Well done all! Enjoyable, friendly event but those hills are nasty!

A big well done also to Helen Smithson who completed her first ever Half Marathon at Torbay in an excellent 1.55.39. Helen is absolutely chuffed with her time, as she should be, particularly as work commitments meant she had to drive down from Kent that morning rather than spend two days acclimatising that had originally been planned.

Finally, the Robsons took on the Bridge Triathlon at Dartford as part of their training for the Ironman distance one they are doing on July 14th. Good luck to them and the Laings who are contesting one the week before.
