On review of last weekend's running activities, along with the usual parkrun attendance, PWR's were to be seen at the Beachy Head Marathon, Great South Run, Stort 30 & Wimbledon Common 10k
This was the last weekend to run your fastest parkrun as part of the Grand Prix competition for October. This resulted in some parkrun tourism for those seeking a faster course. Folks,
Don't forget the the PWR Christmas Party is being held on Saturday 23rd November in the Daylight Inn from 7.30pm. A chance to hydrate with a pint or glass or two and perform some stretching whilst dancing 'Gangnam' style. £10 entrance, pay on the door. You will receive a glass of fizz and a raffle ticket on entry. We would like to gauge interest if a group of volunteers would like to help put together a cold buffet. You will of course be re-imbursed for any costs. (No Smoked Salmon or Quails eggs required) If interested, please let Jonathan know by the end of this week. Also, if anybody has any photos of any PWR's taken this year, please can you e-mail them to me Cheers Ray Bromley parkrun continues to be the location of choice for most of the club runners on a Saturday morning- I suspect because most PWR's are chasing their fastest parkrun time at any event as part of the October Grand Prix. Some runners ventured to Dulwich, known for its very flat and fast 3 lap course, and we had representation at Orpington, Brockenhurst, Bexley, Greenwich and Orpington also. Look out for the updated Grand Prix standings later on in the week where you can work out who to trip up on the start line. I mean, who to beat. PB's this week for Jane Branch, Neil Baynes and Yolanda Martinez.

All without a functioning Garmin! Phil Morley broke his own club record in the Amsterdam marathon and Steve Jeffrey took part in the first running of the York Marathon despite injury and lack of training in the run up to the event did a time that he describes as a personal worst but the rest of us think is still brilliant! Thankfully for this report writer, this week was much easier to summarise the running and racing activities of PWR given things were much quieter. Autumn is definitely now here, and this marks the end of a summer of long distance racing for many of our club members. I think it is brilliant to look back and see all that we have achieved over the last few months, with many members breaking club records, getting new PB's and of course completing new distances for the first time. Well done everyone, you should be very proud of yourselves. Now with Autumn upon us, cross country season starts with the Kent Fitness League this weekend. And I'm sure Bromley parkrun will turn into a mudbath before long, perhaps making it necessary to return to the 'widdershins' winter route!
Talking of parkruns, we still had a fair few members turn up to get their 9am running fix. Clearly, the rest of us need to get hold of whatever Andrew Breese is eating for breakfast- he has set 6 new PB's over his last 7 parkruns and is almost sub 20 mins. Well done Andrew. There were also PB's for James Macdonald, Debbie MacKenzie and Paula Dimond. Paula is up to 25 parkruns- starting out at a time of 30 minutes and she is now on her way to sub 22. There's hope for the rest of us then! Johnny Gill took a trip to Dulwich for the first time and the Laing family returned to Shorne Woods to try out the run there for a second time. Most probably because almost all of us were having a great time standing in the torrential rain in and around Petts Wood for our 10k. Despite the terrible weather, I think a great time was had by runners and volunteers alike. It certainly showed the true sprit of our club and I'm looking forward to next year already. Just one lone racer to report- Emma Hay took on the half marathon distance for the first time at the Maidstone Half marathon. Despite saying to me on Saturday that she would be lucky to get round in 2 and a half hours, she finished in a great time. Well done Emma! Maidstone Half Marathon 332 Emma Hay 2:17:02 This week’s instalment of the weekly results round up is much longer than usual. Lots of PWRs had decided to race this weekend and our facebook page was a hive of activity. This results reporter would like to request a much quieter weekend next week. Or my brain might explode.
To start with Saturday, a huge amount of us turned up at Bromley parkrun. It was pacer week and clearly the thought of a new PB, in addition to the start of the parkrun Grand Prix month, got lots of us out of bed. Petts Wood Runners accounted for just fewer than 10% of the total runners on Saturday and it is great to see month on month our runners donning the pacer vests to help other runners. Andrew Breese, John Aitken Dyte got PB’s at Bromley, Jane Branch at Bexley, Wendy Tung at Orpington and Stu Mackenzie at Greenwich. There was also a bit of parkrun tourism by the Laing family at Shorne Woods, Toni Crow at Brighton and Emma Coakley at Preston Park. And to make amends for losing his Half Marathon record, John Gurney set a new O/50 record for the Marathon with a time of 3:14:49 also at Berlin beating Martin Cunningham’s Boston effort of 3:16:34 Tremendous times Gentlemen! So Johnny Gill, I will happily celebrate with you and toast your achievement with that beer you still owe me ;-) Ray STOP PRESS - UPDATE Sincere apologies to Geraldine Schaer who was omitted. Geraldine managed to knock a couple of minutes of the club record she held for Half Marathon by completing the Ealing Half in 1:32:37. Well done Geraldine! This weekend lots of the usual faces were missing from their respective 'home' parkruns due to the club mass exodus to Berlin for the weekend. In spite of this, PWR still managed a pretty good showing of members in the results with Wendy Tung, Dan Budgen and Andrew Breese all getting new PBs. Andrew managed a PB at Bromley a fortnight ago and this weekend dipped under 21 minutes for the first time at Orpington- great parkrunning, Andrew!
