Club awards
Each year, there will be certain awards presented to members. Nominations for the awards will be selected by the Club Committee, with input from the membership and trophies will be presented following a vote by the membership on each category (see below).
Each trophy will be given for a period of one year and engraved with the winner’s name. Each winner will also receive a small individual trophy to keep.
Categories
The annual awards will be as follows:
1. Female Runner of the Year
2. Male Runner of the Year
3. Most Improved Female Runner of the Year
4. Most Improved Male Runner of the Year
5. Overall Contribution to the Club of the Year
Note: A Special Achievement Award, which will not be an annual award, may be presented from time to time, when it is felt by the Committee that someone’s contribution to the Club merits it. Committee members will not be eligible for this Award, whilst they are on the Committee.
Criteria and eligibility
All nominated members must be first claim members of the Club for the period in question.
All awards will be presented at the Club AGM.
Runner(s) of the Year
This award is not limited to the fastest or ‘best’ runner of the year. This award is to recognise exceptional performance for the Club over a series of events, including, but not limited to, the Kent Fitness League, the Assembly League, club Grand Prix Events and any other races through the year to the end of April, where the runner is representing the Club.
Most Improved Runner(s) of the Year
This award is to recognise a clear improvement in performance over the year to April. Whilst this may be measured by performance in events such as Kent Fitness League, Assembly League, club Grand Prix Events and any other races through the year to the end of April where the runner is representing the Club, performance at parkruns, on Tuesday night club runs or at the track on Thursday evenings can be taken into account as well. RunBritain rankings may be used to identify strong improvement.
Overall Contribution to the Club
This award is to recognise a particular contribution to the Club in the year in question, which goes above and beyond the day to day volunteering that so many of our members already do, not just for the Club but in the wider community. Examples of this might include run leaders, members who manage or organise races, running courses, league participation or other events, members who arrange social events, transport to/from events, manage water stations or marshalling volunteer teams at large events such as the London Marathon, Club photography or people who have simply helped other members within the Club with their performance or increase the profile, accessibility and/or levels of inclusivity of the Club.
Process
In April of each year, the Committee will approach the membership for any nominations within each category. This will be done via Social Media and email. The deadline for nominations will be the 15th April. Thereafter, the PWR Committee will consider all nominations, along with their own nominations, and prepare a shortlist. There is no limit to the size of the shortlist. It is expected that the shortlist for the overall contribution (5.) award may be longer than the others, for obvious reasons.
The committee will then publicise the nominations via Facebook and email, with a voting mechanism for members to choose their nominated award winner from.
Winners will be announced at the Club AGM in May.
