About Petts Wood Runners
When you read the "Club History" blurb for running clubs, most of them will start in a similar way - "It all started back in 1800 with a group of people interested in ..." - well not PWR!!!
PWR started in a bit of a topsy turvey way. When the Club met for the first time on that cold and dark Tuesday evening on 24 October 2006, the only people expected at the Memorial Hall Gardens in Petts Wood were Julian Coglan, Philippa Borland and Darrell Purvis. In fact another 9 runners congregated that night, then 19 the next week, then 24 the following - which was in fact the magic number of members that had been hoped for after the Club had been established for a year!
Richard Dunstan joined to take the role of Club Coach, Phil Morley took on the role of Membership Secretary, and Ian Node took the role of Race Director... Since then the Club has grown week on week, month on month and turned into a really successful community-based running club that really does cater for absolutely everyone, from the complete beginner to some pretty nifty runners!
We now have a larger committee with lots of new ideas and have secured a new permanent meeting point with wc and lockup facilities. Our club continues to grow providing a running fitness and social club for the community and currently have over 600 members,
We are non profit making club and raise thousands of pound each year for charity though our famous Petts Wood 10k which is regularly voted one of the top 10k events by readers of Runner's World magazine
Petts Wood Runners are affiliated to UK Athletics and KLAN (Kent & London Athletics Network).
