The firm favourite Canterbury 10 mile on Sunday 21st January returns as the 3rd GP event. This is a popular event which in recent years has involved a coach trip and pub Sunday roast after a lovely 10 mile run across the beautiful Kent Countryside. There is a promise of another coach. Hopefully we will be going back for Sunday roast too The 4th GP event is the Tunbridge Wells 1/2 Marathon on Sunday February 18th is the longest distance of the calendar. Its a local race but the lovely club that we are we're also putting another coach on. Register for both events as soon as you can as they are also Kent Grand Prix races and are bound to be popular. Look out on the club FB page or club emails for further information about the coach travel and post run celebrations. The Grand Prix groups for 2017/2018 have been publicised
There are 156 runners in the Grand Prix this year. The team have split the runners into 9 groups to compete against each other in the monthly events which will be published. So far we have Brighton 10k 19/11/2017 and Bexley parkrun 16/12/2017 and more events to follow in 2018 Please note that there will be a scoring system for group 1 reflecting age and gender, as set out in the 2017-18 PWR GP rules (also on the PWR website). The scoring system will not be used for the other groups, as those groups are more evenly matched in times. Please direct any queries to [email protected]. The Grand Prix Team have published the rules for the 2017/2018 competition on the website: www.pettswoodrunners.org/pwr-grand-prix-rules.html Note the age and gender advantage for those runners in group 1 As you will already know by now, the PWR Grand Prix 2017/18 season kicks off in November. With this in mind, there was only one race worthy of the honour of kicking off our GP season – and that is the hugely popular Brighton 10km on 19/11/2017. For those of you who've not run Brighton previously, it really is a great event for all abilities. The flat, fast and furious format provides a great chance to chase down a new PB, weather permitting.
For those of you who entered last year, you will have already received your discount code for this year. Please bear in mind, that this expires at 3:00 a.m. BST, September 01, 2017 (very precise). Those of you without this code, the good news is that we have managed to secure a 10% discount for all PWR’s, simply by entering via this link https://endurancecui.active.com/event-reg/select-race?e=44513053 and using discount code on the email sent by John to all members on 7th August. Please note, this is not exclusive to those who have signed up for the GP, all members are encouraged to take part, even if you have opted out. As in previous years, we have two 52 seater coaches providing transport. Both will be leaving at 7:30am SHARP from the Daylight Inn in Petts Wood. One will leave Brighton at 12.45pm giving us time to have a quick bite to eat and drink. The other will depart Brighton at 4pm, for those who want an extended jolly by the sea. Further 'après-race' details will follow soon. The cost of travel is £10.50 per person. To secure your place on one of our PWR party buses, a bank transfer to the PWR account (details below) is required, with 'your name C1' or C2 as reference. If you want to return at 12.45pm, it's C1. 4pm, it's C2. You will then be added to the google sheet once payment has been confirmed. Account Number: 02130329 Sort Code: 30-93-23 We will be in touch again nearer the time with further details. The next Petts Wood Runners Grand Prix see changes to the team and the start point in the calendar year.
Sonia Chou will continue for 2017-18 and lead the team, assisted by Mark Burgess and John Gurney, both experienced PWRs. Completing the team are the new club captains Ellie Bowley and Stephen Pond. Historically, the competition has run from July to June. For 2017-18, this will change and see the competition commence in November 2017 and reaching its climax in October 2018. This will hopefully mean any clashes with KFL races can be avoided. Additionally, with the competition being larger than in previous years, the awards can become part of the PWR winter party. Members are invited to suggest possible races to the GP Team by sending an e-mail to the address on the right of the page. Following last Saturday's Harvel 5, the final PWR Grand Prix update can be found on the Grand Prix page.
Please send any queries on points allocation to [email protected] no later than Monday 12 June 2017. Any queries concerning points allocation after this date will not be actioned. This ensure trophies can be ordered in time for the club's awards night. The latest PWR Grand Prix update can be found on the Grand Prix page.
This includes the results from the Ted Pepper 10K and the Darent Valley 10K. The final race in the series is the Harvel 5 which takes place on Saturday 3 June 2017 @ 2:00pm.
