Petts Wood Runners is a welcoming and sociable community based running club with over 600 members. This year we celebrate our 20th anniversary, and we have come a long way from the 12 members that first turned up on a Tuesday Evening in 2006. With regular races, weekly club runs and friendly social events there is support, friendship and challenge to suit everyone’s running ambitions.
We are proud of our volunteering and charity work for causes that are close to our members' hearts. In 2025 we raised over £25,000 for Cancer Research UK in memory of much loved club runner Rob Lillywhite. This year the club will do all it can to support Alzheimer's Research UK.
Petts Wood 10k
Each year in October we host the popular Petts Wood 10k, a charity event, which is consistently voted one of the top 10k events in the UK on the Runner's World forum. This is a multi-terrain run through the local streets and woodland trails, starting and finishing at Willet Rec where there is entertainment and refreshments. It is always a sell out, and would not be possible without the support of our club volunteers, local businesses and community. We hope to see you there.
Beginners Course
PWR have been running spring courses for beginners who wish to start or return to running for 15 years now. If you’re looking to get fitter, but finding it difficult, the answer may well be in running with others who are in a similar situation to yourself.
There is no charge for taking part, and the only equipment that you will need is some comfortable training shoes. Our friendly leaders are qualified trainers under the UK Athletics’ coaching scheme and are well practised in helping others to run.
Club Running
The heartbeat of the club is the weekly Tuesday evening club run from Willet Rec. With 16 different paced groups there will always be a run that suits your needs.
We have a coached session on Thursday evening at Norman Park track open to anyone wanting to add some structured development to their routine.
With inclusive club only races there are regular opportunities to challenge yourself against the clock. We also have a high turnout when we participate in the local inter club events throughout the year.
Our members are also a friendly bunch with additional weekly social and park runs which always welcome new faces. There is also regular group attendance at other events locally, nationally and internationally helping each other take on, and conquer new challenges.
