RACE REPORTS
RoundS 1 & 2:
The GP has a new look to it this season, with just 7 rounds rather than a full year’s worth of races. The first two events were the Members 10k on April 28th and the Hildenborough 5 miler just over a week later on May Day Bank Holiday. Like most of this year so far, both days started off damp and miserable but the weather gods decided to give us a break and the rain stopped for most of the racing.
137 have registered for the GP this year, with 87 of those racing at the opener and 63 at round 2. You don’t have to be registered for the championship to race at these events so both rounds had a good number of other PWRs joining in.
A big thank you to all those who gave up their time to enthusiastically marshal at the Members 10k and, if registered for the GP, also earn themselves 15 points - equivalent to a 4th place finish without the soggy 10k run!
Group 1 (13 registered competitors)
Members 10k: 1 David Martin, 2 Adam Wilkinson, 3 Simon Thornhill, 4 Andy Tippet, 5 Mark Griffin, 6 Andy Robertson, 7 Silky Ng, 8 Mark Philbrick.
Hildenbrough 5m: 1 Kev Howarth (29:00), 2 Steve Camacho (29:24), 3 Simon Thornhill (29:45), 4 Andy Tippet (30:29), 5 Andy Robertson (31:06), 6 Silky Ng (31:31).
Times weren’t recorded at the Members 10k, with competitors from the same group all setting off at the same time with the first past the winning post taking the honours. 8 of the 13 registered competitors took part with Dave Martin who joined the club last summer leading them in.
Men’s captain Kev Howarth marshalled at the first round but got his running shoes on for Hildenborough and took the group 1 win there in 10th overall. Combined with his 15 marshalling points from round 1 he leads the championship from Simon Thornhill who was 3rd both times out.
Championship: 1 Kev Howarth (35 points), 2 Simon Thornhill (32), 3 Andy Tippet (30), 4 Andy Robertson (27), 5 Silky Ng (25), 6 David Martin (20), 7= Adam Wilkinson & Steve Camacho (18), 9 Mark Griffin (14), 10 Mark Philbrick (11), 11= Kev Chadwick, Mark Smith & Will Senbanjo (0).
Group 2 (11 registered competitors)
Members 10k: 1 Tom Medhurst, 2 James Wall, 3 Melody Kane, 4 Sam Gibbs, 5 Scott Reeves, 6 John Kingscott, 7 Mark Franks, 8 Chloe Wilkinson, 9 David Groom, 10 Stuart Ball, 11 Johnny Gill.
Hildenborough 5m: 1 Tom Medhurst (31:36), 2 Melody Kane (31:53), 3 Sam Gibbs (33:29), 4 Mark Franks (35:41), 5 David Groom (36:00), 6 Stuart Ball (36:42), 7 Chloe Wilkinson (37:02).
Every one of the registered group 2s took part in the Members 10k which bodes well for the rest of the season. Leading the way home was Tom Medhurst who, although a long-term member, doesn’t usually take in the GP if my memory serves me correctly. James Wall, the group 2 runner-up last season, was 2nd quickest.
It was Medhurst again who was victorious at Hildenborough, this time from Melody Kane who had been 3rd at the opener.
Unsurprisingly, Medhurst heads the points table with maximum points from Kane and Sam Gibbs, having taken a 4th and a 3rd and learning that he needs to start nearer the front to avoid the crowds.
Championship: 1 Tom Medhurst (40 points), 2 Melody Kane (34), 3 Sam Gibbs (31), 4 Mark Franks (27), 5 David Groom (24), 6 Chloe Wilkinson (23), 7 Stuart Ball (22), 8 James Wall (18), 9 Scott Reeves (14), 10 John Kingscott (13), 11 Johnny Gill (8).
Group 3 (11 registered competitors)
Members 10k: 1 Steven Wynne, 2 Paul Whelan, 3 Guy Sims, 4 Andrew Stubbs, 5 Mark Burgess.
Hildenborough 5m: 1 Steven Wynne (34:15), 2 Haki Bardhi (34:34), 3 Guy Sims (37:22), 4 Ellen Ball (37:38), 5 Mark Burgess (39:33).
Steven Wynne in his first GP season took the group 3 honours in Petts Wood from Paul Whelan who had unselfishly put himself forward to move up a few groups having been allocated a very favourable hand.
Wynne was again the victor at round 2, with Haki Bardhi 2nd on his GP debut. Wynne heads the table from Guy Sims in 2nd place who was 3rd both times out.
Championship: 1 Steven Wynne (40 points), 2 Guy Sims (32), 3 Mark Burgess (28), 4= Paul Whelan & Haki Bardhi (18), 6= Andy Stubbs & Ellen Ball (15), 8= Carl Inman, Ian Bauly, Jeremy Benson & Jim Winbourne (0).

Hildenborough 5m: 1 Catherine Round (38:07), 2 Steve Burnett (39:07), 3 Igor Velickovic (44:33).
Stuart Isaacs was fastest at the 10k from Catherine Round who then went on to win at Hildenborough. Steve Burnett was 2nd fastest in Group 4 at round 2 and was 1st in his age category. Round leads the championship from Burnett, with Igor Velickovic in 3rd.
Championship: 1 Catherine Round (38 points), 2 Steve Burnett (33), 3 Igor Velickovic (28), 4 Stuart Isaacs (20), 5 Stephen Woodgate (16), 6 Adam Waterman (14), 7 Jason Hone (13), 8 Alice Neal, Kerrie Donohue, Mike Reeves, Paul Munday & Robert Corbett (0).

Hildenborough 5m: 1 Trevor Adams (38:28), 2 Denise Eva (43:03).
Late entry Rachel Knowles won the Members 10k from Trevor Adams, with all the other Group 5s also contesting the opening round. Hildenborough though was a different story with just the two entries, and Adams well clear of Denise Eva in 2nd. Adams also heads Eva in the championship, with round 1 winner Knowles in 3rd overall.
Championship: 1 Trevor Adams (38 points), 2 Denise Eva (27), 3 Rachel Knowles (20), 4 David Welfare (16), 5 Seaton Giles (15), 6 Agne Zavistanavice (14), 7 Julian Edmonds (13), 8 Andy Hall (12), 9 Scott Haragan (11), 10 Paul Strachan (10), 11 Anthony Donohue (8).

Lucy Tang headed Joe Mulhall home at the Members 10k but had to accept 2nd place at round 2 behind Edwina Cheng. Tang however heads the points table from Nigel Hewson who picked up a brace of 3rd places.
Championship: 1 Lucy Tang (38 points), 2 Nigel Hewson (32), 3 Vassilis Sakizlis (30), 4 Alan Niblock (27), 5 Louis Strover (25), 6 Edwina Cheng, 7 Joe Mulhall (18), 8 Ka Si Tung (14), 9 = Ant Holland, Jennifer Kelly & Robert White (0).
Group 7 (11 registered competitors)
Members 10k: 1 Micky Boyd, 2 Nick Squires, 3 Tracey Isaacs, 4 Damian Parker.
Hildenborough 5m: 1 Nick Squires, 2 Damian Parker, 3 Julie Travers, 4 Liz Delamain.
Micky Boyd took the honours around the turns of Petts Wood from Nick Squires, while further into Kent it was Squires who was on top from Damian Parker.
Squires leads the title chase from Parker and Julie Travers, who was 3rd at Hildenborough and volunteered at the opener.
Championship: 1 Nick Squires (38 points), 2 Damian Parker (33), 3 Julie Travers (31), 4 Liz Delamain (30), 5 Micky Boyd (20), 6 Tracey Isaacs (16), 7= Hilary Morton & Katie Garvey (15), 9= David Thomas, Harriet Amos & Maxine Horsfield (0).

All bar one of the Group 8s contested the Members 10k, with Olivia Senbanjo quickest from Matt Smith and Emma Horan.
Matthew Bradshaw obviously had his Weetabix before Hildenborough as he converted his 7th place at Petts Wood into a victory this time out! Senbanjo was just 10s slower in 2nd and leads the title race from Bradshaw and Horan. A special mention to Eric Nash who was 1st MV75 at Hildenborough.
Championship: 1 Olivia Senbanjo (38 points), 2 Matthew Bradshaw (32), 3 Emma Horan (31), 4 Lou Stocks (30), 5 Terry Stocks (25), 6 Eric Nash (23), 7 Matt Smith (18), 8= David Smyth & Sally Callaghan (15), 10 Rachel Inman (13), 11 Lottie Hollamby (9), 12 David Fordyce (0).

Hildenborough 5m: 1 Philippa Wynne (49:23), 2 Sue McAdam (50:33), 3 Chris Haydon (50:39).
Lyttleton Barrett secured the win at the opener from Julie Medhurst and Philippa Wynne. Neither Barrett or Medhurst raced at round 2 so it was Philippa Wynne who took the honours from Sue McAdam to make it a double celebration for the Wynne family, with Steven having won Group 3.
Wynne leads the championship from Chris Haydon - the only two to have contested both rounds.
Championship: 1 Philippa Wynne (36 points), 2 Chris Haydon (31), 3 Lyttleton Barrett (20), 4= Julie Medhurst & Sue McAdam (18), 6= Alex Robins & Sinead Barrett (15), 8= Biljana Petrushevska, Emma Sims, Jim Kirkland & Martyn Brown (0).

All the Group 11s were represented at the 10k, with 9 racing and Pherenice Worsey-Buck and Simon Gleeson volunteering. Amy Thomas took the win from Wendy Tung and Perry Wilson.
The top 3 were the only ones from the first round not to race at Hildenborough so we will have to wait and see how they get on at subsequent rounds. As it was, we had two winners at Hildenborough as Worsey-Buck and John Perks were credited with the exact same chip time and so were both awarded 20 points for their efforts.
Worsey-Buck leads the championship from Perks and Simon Gleeson.
Championship: 1 Pherenice Worsey-Buck (35 points), 2 John Perks (33), 3 Simon Gleeson (31), 4= Karen Bowden-Brown & Paula Gleeson (29), 6 Kathy Strachan (25), 7 Liz Squires (23), 8 Amy Thomas (20), 9 Wendy Tung (18), 10 Perry Wilson (16).

The top 3 in group 12 was the same at both events, with Holly Hutson taking the victories. Christina Springbett was 2nd at Petts Wood from Kary Leggett in 3rd, while at Hildenborough they posted identical chip and gun times so finished joint 2nd!
The above three hold the podium places in the championship, with Hutson leading Springbett and Leggett.

Round 3 of the Grand Prix is the Eltham 5 miler on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16th. As the championship is the best 5 results from 7 rounds and we have had two rounds already, anyone who hasn’t run yet really needs to be on the start line for this one! Online entries have closed, but there supposed to a few on the day entries but you will need to get there early.
Round 4 is the Cliffe Woods 5 miler near Rochester on July 7th. Apparently there are no cliffs and no woods but there is great countryside at this relatively flat road event. Enter at https://www.sportingeventsuk.com/enter-an-event/cliffe-woods-5-mile-1#

As it was, we had two winners at Hildenborough as Worsey-Buck and John Perks were credited with the exact same chip time and so were both awarded 20 points for their efforts.
Worsey-Buck leads the championship from Perks and Simon Gleeson.

Round 3: ELTHAM 5 MILER
Round 3 of the 2024 PWR GP series was the Eltham 5 miler on June 16th. 56 GP competitors were joined by a number of other PWRs including Emma Stevens who got up early to grab one of the on-the-day entries and come in first lady.

Men’s Captain Kev Howarth repeated his success at the previous round and took the Group 1 win and was the 1st MV50 overall. Steve Camacho gave it his all but had to settle for 2nd in a repeat of his Hildenborough result while, although Mark Philbrick beat Andy Tippet to the line, they recorded the same chip time to finish 3rd equal. Mark Smith in his first outing of the championship was 5th from Silky Ng, all the Group 1s covered by less than 2 minutes.

Photographic evidence showed however that he had finished 3rd ahead of Ellen Ball and Mark Burgess.

Just find the fastest course you can, set a blistering time and wait and see what your rivals have done! From past experience, and given this year’s unpredictable weather, it is worth banking a time as early in the month as you can.
Round 4: CLIFFE WOODS
It was off to Cliffe Woods near Rochester on July 7th for Round 4 of the PWR Grand Prix series. The 5 mile route used quiet country roads all the way, but I would dispute the organisers’ “relatively flat” as most of the time it felt like we were going uphill, albeit with fairly shallow slopes!
The event also incorporated a round of the Kent GP, and the 53 PWR Grand Prix contestants were joined by a number of other Petts Wood runners to good effect, with the men in 1st place and the ladies only a few points behind Tunbridge Wells Harriers in 2nd place.
Race entries closed before the day to the disappointment of some and a little surprising as there were only 307 finishers and it felt like more entries could have been accommodated. Those that were lucky enough to have got a place were divided into three groups (loosely based on anticipated finishing time) and sent off in different waves a minute or so apart.
Group 1 (13 registered competitors)
1 Will Senbanjo (28:41), 2 Simon Thornhill (29:22), 3 Kev Howarth (29:55), 4 Mark Philbrick (30:27).
It was a first appearance in this year’s series for Will Senbanjo and what a debut - 1st in Group 1 and 4th overall! He was joined in the overall top 10 by two others from Group 1 - Simon Thornhill in 6th, who won the MV45 prize, and series leader Kev Howarth who was 10th overall. Mark Philbrick wasn’t far behind in 15th overall.
Howarth now has a very healthy lead in the championship but is the only Group 1 to have done all the races so far. Thornhill has leapt into 2nd place.

Melody Kane took the Group 2 victory by less than a minute over John Kingscott who had missed the previous two rounds. Mark Franks got the better of Stuart Ball who had beaten him at the previous round to take 3rd by just 6 seconds, with David Groom not far behind in 5th.
With Tom Medhurst not racing, Franks has closed to within one point of the championship leader. However, with Medhurst having only completed three rounds and won all of them he is looking good for the title as long as he completes (and wins!) the necessary five rounds. Ball, Kane and Groom are tightly packed together in 3rd to 5th.
Championship: 1 Tom Medhurst (60 points), 2 Mark Franks (59), 3 Stuart Ball (55), 4 Melody Kane (54), 5 David Groom (53), 6= Sam Gibbs & John Kingscott (31), 8 Chloe Wilkinson (23), 9 James Wall (18), 10 Scott Reeves (14), 11 Johnny Gill (8).

1 Steven Wynne (35:22), 2 Carl Inman (35:49), 3 Ellen Ball (37:50), 4 Mark Burgess (38:02).
It was back to normal in Group 3 with Steven Wynne back out in front having lost out to Haki Bardhi at the previous round. Carl Inman in 2nd was closer to Wynne at this event having not had to battle with picking up his timing chip that had come off as he had at Eltham. Ellen Ball was a couple of minutes back in 3rd but was still able to keep Mark Burgess in last place.
Wynne is well clear in the series with three wins and a 2nd place from the 4 rounds. Ball rises to 3rd behind Burgess, while Inman is starting to also progress up the table. Three Group 3s have still not taken part in this year’s championship, but that should change with parkruns in August being the next round.
Championship: 1 Steven Wynne (78 points), 2 Mark Burgess (57), 3 Ellen Ball (46), 4 Haki Bardhi (38), 5 Carl Inman (34), 6 Guy Sims (32), 7 Paul Whelan (18), 8 Andy Stubbs (15), 9= Ian Bauly, Jeremy Benson & Jim Winbourne (0).

1 Kerrie Donohue (38:23), 2 Igor Velickovic (42:50), 3 Catherine Round (44:33).
Backing up her 2nd place at the previous round, Kerrie Donohue took a convincing Group 4 win at Cliffe Woods. Igor Velickovic recorded his best result so far in 2nd place, with Hildenborough winner Catherine Round in 3rd.
A timely win for Donohue takes her up from 6th to 3rd, while Round extends her series lead to 24 points. We have had different winners at each round in this group - who will increase their tally? Velickovic’s 18 points for his 2nd place at Cliffe Woods moves him up from 5th to 2nd overall.

Rachel Knowles has won every time she has raced and Cliffe Woods was no exception, on the way also beating all the runners in the group above. Hildenborough winner Trevor Adams was 2 minutes behind Knowles having just returned from a 3 week break in France and a bout of Covid. Andy Hall was 3rd from Anthony Donohue, with Agne Zavistanavice in 5th just 3 seconds faster than Denise Eva.
Knowles stays two points ahead of Adams in the championship having won three times to Adams’ once. The top 5 remain unchanged with Anthony Donohue moving into 6th at the expense of David Welfare.

Although Squires has increased his points advantage at the top of the table over 2nd-placed Parker to 13 points, they should both be keeping an eye out on Boyd who moves up from 7th to 4th behind Morton as he has secured 40 points from just two outings.
Championship: 1 Nick Squires (76 points), 2 Damian Parker (63), 3 Hilary Morton (47), 4 Micky Boyd (40), 5 Tracey Isaacs (34), 6 Julie Travers (31), 7 Liz Delamain (30), 8 Katie Garvey (15), 9= David Thomas, Harriet Amos & Maxine Horsfield (0).

He took a dominant victory at Eltham, and at Cliffe Woods his winning advantage was even larger at over 4 minutes. The other Group 9s were much closer with series leader Philippa Wynne 41s quicker than Martyn Brown who just ousted Sue McAdam for 3rd by a single second.
Wynne has moved 20 points clear of 2nd-placed Chris Haydon, with two-times winner Kirkland making his way up the table from 5th to 3rd.

Just as in Group 9 we have a new series leader in Group 10, Allison overhauling Pester for top position, again by just a single point. The rest of the table remains as before apart from Evans drawing level with Adams in 4th equal.
Championship: 1 David Allison (73 points), 2 Paul Pester (72), 3 Barbara Carr (61), 4= Ann Adams & Clare Evans (46), 6 Corinne Hollamby (18), 7 James Fisher (16), 8 Jenny Hayward (12), 9= Djuro Rnic & Eleanor Galpert (0).

So on to Round 5! The tables will start becoming clearer from now on as a competitor’s best 5 results from 7 count so those who are high up by more because of attendance rather than top results will start to slip down after this one. Remember, it’s parkruns anywhere in August so that is 5 opportunities to put in a good time, or even more as there are bound to be special parkruns happening somewhere on non-Saturdays!

Round 6: dartford bridge 10k
For the penultimate round of this season’s Grand Prix it was off to Dartford and the Dartford Bridge 10k - two laps of two lakes near the QEII bridge. PWR had 43 entries of which 38 were registered for the GP. Not big numbers, but over 30% of the 135 total finishers. The organisers apologised that the course was about 300 metres short, or even shorter for those who unintentionally managed to take a small shortcut! Having used photos and Strava maps, the committee has concluded no one got an unfair advantage.
Group 1 (13 registered competitors)
1 Steve Camacho (34:49), 2 Mark Smith (35:12), 3 Mark Philbrick (35:49), 4 Andy Robertson (39:09).
There were four Group 1s at the event and boy did they do well! Steve Camacho and Mark Smith made the race podium in 2nd and 3rd respectively, while Mark Philbrick and Andy Robertson were also well placed in 6th and 13th overall.
Camacho now leads the championship by two points from Philbrick who in turn is the same number of points ahead of Kev Howarth. Philbrick is the only one in this group to have completed 5 races - the maximum number before you have to drop scores. The others around him therefore have better points scoring potential so it will all come down to who contests the last round.
Championship: 1 Steve Camacho (74 points), 2 Mark Philbrick (72), 3 Kev Howarth (70), 4= Simon Thornhil & Andy Tippet (62), 6 Andy Robertson (53), 7 Silky Ng (51), 8 Adam Wilkinson (38), 9 Mark Smith (32), 10 David Martin & Will Senbanjo (20), 12 Mark Griffin (14), 13 Kev Chadwick (0).
Group 2 (11 registered competitors)
1 Tom Medhurst (37:40), 2 Melody Kane (38:30), 3 John Kingscott (40:13), 4 Mark Franks (41:34), 5 David Groom (43:29).
When Tom Medhurst has raced this year, he has won - simple. Race win number 5 means he has scored the maximum 100 points available to emphatically secure the title. The only other Group 2 to have taken a victory was Melody Kane at Cliffe Woods. Though she couldn’t quite match Medhurst at Dartford, Kane was less than a minute behind and 2nd lady overall. John Kingscott was 3rd from the ever present Mark Franks and David Groom, both of whom have not missed a single round.
Medhurst and Kane have secured the top two places in the championship so it is just the final place on the podium that is up for grabs. Franks, Groom, Stuart Ball and Kingscott are all in with a shout, with Kingscott in the best position to add to his tally as he has only contested 4 rounds.
Championship: 1 Tom Medhurst (100 points), 2 Melody Kane (90), 3 Mark Franks (76), 4 David Groom (68), 5 Stuart Ball (67), 6 John Kingscott (61), 7 Sam Gibbs (46), 8 James Wall (34), 9 Chloe Wilkinson (33), 9 James Wall (18), 10 Johnny Gill (17), 11 Scott Reeves (14).
Group 3 (11 registered competitors)
1 Haki Bardhi (39:42), 2 Steven Wynne (40:39), 3 Carl Inman (41:07).
This group is all about the battle between Steven Wynne and Haki Bardhi - both have taken three wins apiece. Wynne had the advantage early on in the season but Bardhi has responded and, having set the fastest time at the August parkruns, was once again on top at Dartford. Carl Inman has battled valiantly to catch these two but has had to be content with being the best of the rest.
Wynne has 96 points out of a possible 100 but could still be pipped by Bardhi in the title race if Bardhi takes the win at Bedgebury Forest. Mark Burgess could tie on points with Bardhi if Bardhi is a no-show at the final round but won’t beat him on the tie-breaker. Inman and Ellen Ball are next up in the points table.
Championship: 1 Steven Wynne (96 points), 2 Haki Bardhi (78), 3 Mark Burgess (72), 4 Carl Inman (66), 5 Ellen Ball (60), 6 Guy Sims (32), 7 Andy Stubbs (28), 8 Paul Whelan (18), 9= Ian Bauly, Jeremy Benson & Jim Winbourne (0).
Group 4 (12 registered competitors)
1 Paul Munday (46:38), 2 Igor Velickovic (49:34).
Just two Group 4s at this round, with first time winner Paul Munday almost 3 minutes ahead of Igor Velickovic.
Hildenborough winner Catherine Round heads the points table and, by my reckoning, cannot be caught. Velickovic is just about certain of 2nd place although he could be overtaken by Kerrie Donohue should she contest the final round. Just a single point separates Munday and Steve Burnett in 4th and 5th.
Championship: 1 Catherine Round (88 points), 2 Igor Velickovic (77), 3 Kerrie Donohue (58), 4 Paul Munday (49), 5 Steve Burnett (48), 6 Mike Reeves (35), 7 Stuart Isaacs (34), 8= Stephen Woodgate & Rob Corbett (16), 10 Adam Waterman (14), 11 Jason Hone (13), 12 Alice Neal (0).
Group 5 (11 registered competitors)
1 Trevor Adams (47:00), 2 Andy Hall (47:03), 3 Rachel Knowles (48:04).
Trevor Adams had tried his darndest to be fastest in August over the parkrun distance but had lost out to Agne Zavistanavice. There was going to be no stopping him at Dartford though as he came out on top in a sprint finish with Andy Hall by just 4 seconds, with chip times narrowing that gap to 3 seconds. Three times race winner Rachel Knowles was 3rd, about a minute behind.
Knowles could reduce the gap to Adams by 9 points if she wins the final round - unfortunately for Adams he is only 7 points ahead! The best Hall can achieve is 3rd but that will depend on whether Zavistanavice contests the final round or not.
Championship: 1 Trevor Adams (94 points), 2 Rachel Knowles (87), 3 Andy Hall (76), 4 Agne Zavistanavice (66), 5 Denise Eva (53), 7 Anthony Donohue (38), 8 Paul Strachan (26), 9 Scott Haragan (23), 10 David Welfare (16), 11 Seaton Giles (15), 12 Julian Edmonds (13).
Group 6 (11 registered competitors)
1 Vassilis Sakizlis (49:44).
Vassilis Sakizlis was the sole Group 6 at Dartford - not that he is complaining about the welcome boost to his points tally.
Lucy Tang with 4 wins and a 2nd place is the worthy champion with Sakizilis likely to take the runner-up spot unless Nigel Hewson wins the last round when it will all get a bit hot under the collar for our Greek god. Louis Strover could in turn sneak on to the series podium.
Championship: 1 Lucy Tang (98 points), 2 Vassilis Sakizlis (83), 3 Nigel Hewson (66), 4 Louis Strover (55), 5 Alan Niblock (45), 6 Edwina Cheng (20), 7 Joe Mulhall (18), 8 Ka Si Tung (14), 9 = Ant Holland, Jennifer Kelly & Robert White (0).
Group 7 (11 registered competitors)
1 Nick Squires (48:25), 2 Tracey Isaacs (53:06), 3 Damian Parker (57:12).
Nick Squires has been in great shape this season, winning three times including this event where he was over 4 minutes ahead of 2nd placed Tracey Isaacs, who in turn was well clear of Damian Parker.
Squires has wrapped up the championship and has 96 points out of a possible 100. Parker is currently in the runner-up spot but could lose out if either Isaacs or three times winner Micky Boyd race at Bedgebury.
Championship: 1 Nick Squires (96 points), 2 Damian Parker (80), 3 Tracey Isaacs (67), 4 Micky Boyd (60), 5 Hilary Morton (47), 6 Julie Travers (31), 7 Liz Delamain (30), 8 Katie Garvey (15), 9= David Thomas, Harriet Amos & Maxine Horsfield (0).
Group 8 (12 registered competitors)
1 Emma Horan (51:45), 2 Rachel Inman (54:57), 3 Matthew Bradshaw (55:37).
Championship leader Matthew Bradshaw had won four times in a row coming into Dartford but it was Emma Horan’s turn to hit form and take her first victory of the year. Also getting the better of Bradshaw was Rachel Inman who had set an identical parkrun time to Horan at the previous round.
Bradshaw has done more than enough to secure the title but, behind him, both of the remaining podium spots are up for grabs in a battle between Horan, Olivia Senbanjo and Inman.
Championship: 1 Matthew Bradshaw (96 points), 2 Emma Horan (87), 3 Olivia Senbanjo (84), 4 Rachel Inman (77), 5 Lou Stocks (60), 6 Terry Stocks (54), 7 Eric Nash (51), 8 Matt Smith (18), 9= David Smyth & Sally Callaghan (15), 11 Lottie Hollamby (9), 12 David Fordyce (0).
Group 9 (11 registered competitors)
1 Jim Kirkland (52:18), 2 Sue McAdam (56:34), 3 Chris Haydon (58:10).
Since his debut at round 3, Jim Kirkland has been the dominant force in Group 9 and Dartford was no different as he took his fourth victory in a row. Sue McAdam picked up her second 2nd place of the series with Chris Haydon 3rd.
Although Philippa Wynne and Haydon head Kirkland in the table, he only has to show up at the final round to take the title as any points he scores will be in addition to his four perfect scores. Wynne is guaranteed at least 2nd place, but Haydon may lose out on a podium place if McAdam makes an appearance at Bedgebury.
Championship: 1 Philippa Wynne (87 points), 2 Chris Haydon (81), 3 Jim Kirkland (80), 4 Sue McAdam (65), 5 Lyttleton Barrett (51), 6 Alex Robins (42), 7 Julie Medhurst (18), 8 Martyn Brown (16), 9 Sinead Barrett (15), 10= Biljana Petrushevska & Emma Sims (0).
Group 10 (10 registered competitors)
1 Clare Evans (58:38), 2 James Fisher (58:58), 3 Paul Pester (59:36), 4 Barbara Carr (60:08).
Clare Evans produced the goods at Dartford to take the win by 20 seconds from parkrun victor James Fisher. Two times winner Paul Pester and Ann Adams were close by in 3rd in 4th.
Pester leads the table but David Allison could make it interesting at the top if he races at the final round. Evans needs to be wary of Barbara Carr’s challenge for her 3rd spot.
Championship: 1 Paul Pester (92 points), 2 David Allison (89), 3 Clare Evans (80), 4 Barbara Carr (76), 5 Ann Adams (61), 6 James Fisher (54), 7 Corinne Hollamby (18), 8 Jenny Hayward (12), 9= Djuro Rnic & Eleanor Galpert (0).
Group 11 (12 registered competitors)
1 John Perks (55:48), 2 Paula Gleeson (57:24), 3 Wendy Tung (57:49), 4 Christina Springbett (60:08), 5 Holly Hutson (61:36), 6 Pherenice Worsey-Buck (63:47).
Group 6 had the largest entry and all six now feature at the top end of the points table. Eltham winner John Perks took his second victory of the season from Paula Gleeson in 2nd - her best result so far. Parkrun speedster Wendy Tung was next up from Cliffe Woods victor Christina Springbett, Hildenborough winner Holly Hutson and Pherenice Worsey-Buck.
Perks can’t be caught at the top of the table but behind him anyone of the rest of the top six could wind up in 2nd! Worsey-Buck holds the advantage at the moment over Springbett, Hutson, Gleeson and Tung.
Championship: 1 John Perks (94 points), 2 Pherenice Worsey-Buck (80), 3 Christina Springbett (76), 4= Paula Gleeson & Holly Hutson (74), 6 Wendy Tung (70), 7 Simon Gleeson (55), 8 Liz Squires (54), 9 Kathy Strachan (47), 10 Perry Wilson (31), 11 Karen Bowden-Brown (28), 12 Amy Thomas (20).
Group 12 (12 registered competitors)
1 Kary Leggett (69:33).
Kary Leggett was the sole Group 12 runner at Dartford and duly boosted her season’s tally to three victories.
Karin Bradhsaw and Hannah Harrison top the table but have both contested five rounds. If Leggett races at the last round she will take the title.
Championship: 1 Karin Bradshaw (86 points), 2 Hannah Harrison (82), 3 Kary Leggett (76), 4 Mary Moore (69), 5 Gill Boyd (54), 6 Laura Williams (47), 7 Tara Howarth (42), 8 Ruth Feltham (28), 9 Sonia Chou (20), 10 Laura Gladman (13), 11 Helen Hobson (12), 12 Caroline Moncur (0).

The seventh and final round is the Bedgebury Forest 10k on October 27th. Entries for this single lap trail race are still available at https://www.nice-work.org.uk/e/bedgebury-forest-half-marathon-and-10k-9257. It is likely to be muddy!
Round 7: Bedgebury forest 27/10/24
The conclusion of this year’s 7-round Grand Prix series was the Bedgebury Forest trail 10k. Those who ventured there were treated to a beautiful day that made this National Pinetum and Forest look all the more stunning. Well worth a trip if you’ve never been before although it was a tough course for a race with the uphill finish forcing many to walk. Thankfully, our photographers managed to still make us look like the athletes we are!
Group 1 (13 registered competitors)
1 Simon Thornhill (41:12), 2 Mark Philbrick (42:28), 3 Steve Camacho (44:49), 4 Andy Robertson (45:59).
As at the previous Dartford Bridge round, PWRs again took two of the three podium places. Oli Knowles, who is not registered for the Grand Prix, was in a class of his own and finished almost 4 minutes clear with an amazing time considering the nature of the event of 37:22! In 2nd place overall and the first GP entrant was Simon Thornhill to take the Group 1 victory. Mark Philbrick was 2nd in class, his best finish of the season, from series leader Steve Camacho, and Andy Robertson.
Camacho’s 16 points for 3rd were more than enough to fend off his rivals and take the championship honours. Thornhill’s race win takes him above Philbrick into the runner-position while Kev Howarth, Robertson and Andy Tippet complete the top six.
Championship: 1 Steve Camacho (90 points), 2 Simon Thornhill (82), 3 Mark Philbrick (79), 4 Kev Howarth (70), 5 Andy Robertson (68), 6 Andy Tippet (62), 7 Silky Ng (51), 8 Adam Wilkinson (38), 9 Mark Smith (32), 10 David Martin & Will Senbanjo (20), 12 Mark Griffin (14), 13 Kev Chadwick (0).
Group 2 (11 registered competitors)
1 John Kingscott (51:29).
John Kingscott was the sole Group 2 at Bedgebury and looking to catapult himself on to the series podium to join champion-elect Tom Medhurst and runner-up elect Melody Kane.
Kingscott’s 20 points for the win was more than enough to jump from 6th overall to 3rd in the table and deny Mark Franks, David Groom and Stuart Ball their chance of silverware.
Championship: 1 Tom Medhurst (100 points), 2 Melody Kane (90), 3 John Kingscott (81), 4 Mark Franks (76), 5 David Groom (68), 6 Stuart Ball (67), 7 Sam Gibbs (46), 8 James Wall (34), 9 Chloe Wilkinson (33), 9 James Wall (18), 10 Johnny Gill (17), 11 Scott Reeves (14).
Group 3 (11 registered competitors)
1 Haki Bardhi (48:49), 2 Carl Inman (55:03), 3 Mark Burgess (56:40).
Three Group 3s arrived at Bedgebury with all of them in the mix for placings in the championship. Haki Bardhi had already taken three wins this season and he was over 6 minutes clear of 2nd-placed Carl Inman, with Mark Burgess in 3rd.
Bardhi’s win and valuable 20 points meant he overtook Steven Wynne to win the title by just two points. The two of them have dominated the group, so much so that Bardhi was only 2 points off scoring the maximum 100 available while Wynne was only 4 points off doing the same! Inman has been the 3rd best Group 3 this season and so deservedly wrested the final podium position from Burgess who was only really in contention for a podium finish due to his regular attendance.
Championship: 1 Haki Bardhi (98 points), 2 Steven Wynne (96), 3 Carl Inman (84), 4 Mark Burgess (74), 5 Ellen Ball (60), 6 Guy Sims (32), 7 Andy Stubbs (28), 8 Paul Whelan (18), 9= Ian Bauly, Jeremy Benson & Jim Winbourne (0).
Group 4 (12 registered competitors)
1 Paul Munday (58:31), 2 Igor Velickovic (60:32).
Dartford Bridge winner Paul Munday was again victorious for the second race in a row, with Igor Velickovic picking up his third 2nd place of the series.
Catherine Round had already secured the Group 4 title and Velickovic held on to 2nd place as Kerrie Donohue, the only person who could have denied him, was busy in Dublin taking in her first ever marathon with great effect! Munday takes the final podium place and could have challenged for top hours had he raced at more rounds.
Championship: 1 Catherine Round (88 points), 2 Igor Velickovic (83), 3 Paul Munday (69), 4 Kerrie Donohue (58), 5 Steve Burnett (48), 6 Mike Reeves (35), 7 Stuart Isaacs (34), 8= Stephen Woodgate & Rob Corbett (16), 10 Adam Waterman (14), 11 Jason Hone (13), 12 Alice Neal (0).
Group 5 (11 registered competitors)
1 Rachel Knowles (55:43), 2 David Welfare (56:17), 3 Denise Eva (67:27).
Rachel Knowles arrived at Bedgebury knowing (well if she didn’t, she hadn’t read my last report!) that a win would give her the title. She was in determined mood despite sliding around in the mud in her road shoes to take the win from David Welfare making only his second appearance of the season and mindful of not being too much of a disruptor. Denise Eva was 3rd.
Knowles’ fourth win of the season gives her the title by just two points from Trevor Adams who, knowing that it was unlikely he could beat her on the road, decided to keep his place at the River Thames Half Marathon on the same day. Andy Hall completes the Group 5 podium, with Eva overtaking Agne Zavistanavice for 4th.
Championship: 1 Rachel Knowles (96 points), 2 Trevor Adams (94), 3 Andy Hall (76), 4 Denise Eva (69), 5 Agne Zavistanavice (66), 6 Anthony Donohue (38), 7 David Welfare (34), 8 Paul Strachan (26), 9 Scott Haragan (23), 10 Seaton Giles (15), 11 Julian Edmonds (13).
Group 6 (11 registered competitors)
1 Ka Si Tung (59:48), 2 Vassilis Sakizlis (60:11).
Not seen since the season opener, Ka Si Tung was back out in a PWR top at Bedgebury and took the win by 23 seconds from Dartford Bridge winner Vassilis Sakizlis.
Lucy Tang had wrapped up the championship two rounds earlier with 98 points out of the maximum 100 possible. Sakizlis takes the runner-up spot and is comfortably clear of Nigel Hewson in 3rd, with Louis Strover, Alan Niblock and Tung completing the top six.
Championship: 1 Lucy Tang (98 points), 2 Vassilis Sakizlis (86), 3 Nigel Hewson (66), 4 Louis Strover (55), 5 Alan Niblock (45), 6 Ka Si Tung (34), 7 Edwina Cheng (20), 8 Joe Mulhall (18), 9= Ant Holland, Jennifer Kelly & Robert White (0).
Group 7 (11 registered competitors)
1 Nick Squires (59:47), 2 Damian Parker (66:51).
Just the top two in the championship turned up at Bedgebury, with Nick Squires’ title already secured, and Damian Parker’s runner-spot also confirmed by the absence of Tracey Isaacs and Mick Boyd. Squires took the win and was actually faster than the Group 6s, while Parker was 2nd.
Squires’ fourth win of the year means he finishes the campaign just two points off the series maximum, while Parker finishes well clear of Isaacs and Boyd in 3rd and 4th respectively. Squires and Parker are two of only four competitors across all the classes to have raced at all seven rounds.
Championship: 1 Nick Squires (98 points), 2 Damian Parker (83), 3 Tracey Isaacs (67), 4 Micky Boyd (60), 5 Hilary Morton (47), 6 Julie Travers (31), 7 Liz Delamain (30), 8 Katie Garvey (15), 9= David Thomas, Harriet Amos & Maxine Horsfield (0).
Group 8 (12 registered competitors)
1 Rachel Inman (70:49), 2 Olivia Senbanjo (76:39).
There had been some pouring over the competition rules prior to this last round as it was possible that Rachel Inman and Olivia Senbanjo could well be tied on points in the chase for a podium place behind champion-elect Matthew Bradshaw. They both decided to race at Bedgebury, with Inman well clear of Senbanjo who had won the Members 10k right at the beginning of the championship.
Senbanjo’s 2nd place at this final round was enough for her to move ahead of Emma Horan into 2nd overall, while Inman’s convincing race win wasn’t quite enough to grab a place on the podium.
Championship: 1 Matthew Bradshaw (96 points), 2 Olivia Senbanjo (89), 3 Emma Horan (87), 4 Rachel Inman (84), 5 Lou Stocks (60), 6 Terry Stocks (54), 7 Eric Nash (51), 8 Matt Smith (18), 9= David Smyth & Sally Callaghan (15), 11 Lottie Hollamby (9), 12 David Fordyce (0).
Group 9 (11 registered competitors)
1 Chris Haydon (69:26), 2 Lyttleton Barrett (70:21), 3 Jim Kirkland (70:24), 4 Sue McAdam (74:53).
Four Group 9s raced at Bedgebury including series leader Jim Kirkland who only needed to turn up to make sure of the title. A good thing too as he had taken part in a half marathon the previous day so wasn’t in the usual dominant form that we have seen at previous rounds.
Chris Haydon produced his best performance of the season to take the win from Members 10k winner Lyttleton Barrett, Kirkland, just 3 seconds behind Barrett, and Sue McAdam in 4th.
Kirkland’s 3rd place cemented his series win, with Philippa Wynne holding on to 2nd spot by just one point from Haydon. McAdam winds up 4th ahead of Barrett and Alex Robins.
Championship: 1 Jim Kirkland (96 points), 2 Philippa Wynne (87), 2 Chris Haydon (86), 4 Sue McAdam (80), 5 Lyttleton Barrett (69), 6 Alex Robins (42), 7 Julie Medhurst (18), 8 Martyn Brown (16), 9 Sinead Barrett (15), 10= Biljana Petrushevska & Emma Sims (0).
Group 10 (10 registered competitors)
1 Clare Evans (71:36), 2 Paul Pester (73:20).
There were three Group 10s at Bedgebury, but Paul Pester’s nerves were calmed when he found out that his championship rival David Allison was only there in a supporting role and wouldn’t be racing. Clare Evans reproduced her race-winning form from Dartford to take her second win in a row while Pester was 2nd.
Pester takes the title from Allison and Evans - all three having won twice this season. Barbara Carr finishes 4th overall from Ann Adams and James Fisher - the only other competitor to have won a round.
Championship: 1 Paul Pester (94 points), 2 David Allison (89), 3 Clare Evans (87), 4 Barbara Carr (76), 4 Ann Adams (61), 5 James Fisher (54), 6 Corinne Hollamby (18), 7 Jenny Hayward (12), 9= Djuro Rnic & Eleanor Galpert (0).
Group 11 (12 registered competitors)
1 Paula Gleeson (70:56), 2 Wendy Tung (72:55), 3 Holly Hutson (73:05), 4 Pherenice Worsey-Buck (74:19), 5 Liz Squires (88:03).
Another good entry in Group 11, and it was Paula Gleeson who came out on top and secured her first victory of the season. Parkrun speedster Wendy Tung was 2nd from Hildenborough victor Holly Hutson, Pherenice Worsey-Buck (who had somehow overslept even though the clocks had gone back?) and Liz Squires.
John Perks had already secured the championship title and is joined on the podium by Tung, who leaps up from 6th to 2nd, and Gleeson who tied on points with Worsey-Buck but takes 3rd overall on a tie-break due to her one win to Worsey-Buck’s none.
Championship: 1 John Perks (94 points), 2 Wendy Tung (88), 3 Paul Gleeson (81), 4 Pherenice Worsey-Buck (81), 5 Holly Hutson (78), 6 Christina Springbett (75), 7 Liz Squires (59), 8 Simon Gleeson (55), 9 Kathy Strachan (47), 10 Perry Wilson (31), 11 Karen Bowden-Brown (28), 12 Amy Thomas (20).
Group 12 (12 registered competitors)
1 Kary Leggett (89:02).
Kary Leggett was for the second race in a row the sole Group 12 runner at Dartford and duly took her fourth win of the series to wrap up the championship in convincing style. Joining her on the podium are Cliffe Woods winner Karin Bradshaw and Eltham victor Hannah Harrison.
Championship: 1 Kary Leggett (96 points), 2 Karin Bradshaw (86), 2 Hannah Harrison (82), 4 Mary Moore (69), 5 Gill Boyd (54), 6 Laura Williams (47), 7 Tara Howarth (42), 8 Ruth Feltham (28), 9 Sonia Chou (20), 10 Laura Gladman (13), 11 Helen Hobson (12), 12 Caroline Moncur (0).

Congratulations to our worthy champions in this new-style shortened GP. The top three in each group will be honoured at the PWR Winter Party on November 23rd where you may not recognise them as they swap their PWR tops for their glad rags!
