Committee

Below are the kind people that volunteer their time to ensure that Petts Wood Runners is a thriving, successful and sociable club.  Please feel free to contact any of them with any questions or find them at the club on a Tuesday evening.

JASON MERCER - CHair
e-mail: [email protected]

Picture
Jason has been a member of PWR since 2016, having been invited to join by a friend at Bromley parkrun. He has enjoyed/endured running various race distances, preferring road to trail, largely managing to avoid head-turning results.

Having reached the lofty heights of being a gorilla at the 2018 Petts Wood 10k before being a cowboy hat-wearing Tail Walker in 2019, Jason become our Race Director for the 2022 event and found that he liked running admin so much that he carried on for four years.  Just recently, Jason has taken over as chair of the club.

Fellow club members should make sure Jason writes things down when they have information or ideas - unless it's football trivia from the 1990s, he will not remember it.

Daniel joined PWR in 2016. He takes part in most club races (although still doesn’t like the mud and wet of the KFL) and is infamous for starting slowly before working his way through the field. He has tried 7 times, but not yet succeeded, to run a sub 3 hour marathon.

Committee responsibilities:
Daniel is responsible for major club decisions & disciplinary matters. Legal & administration - Organise and set committee agenda - Administrate with sports affiliations - Provide support for captains and committee.

SIMON BRIER - Treasurer
e-mail: [email protected]

Picture
Simon joined PWR in 2018 when he returned to the UK after four years working and running in India.  He was inspired to join PWR after running the PWR10K and thinking how well-organised and friendly the event and club is.  Simon prefers 10km to Half distances, loves the KFLs and has run a Marathon (once, in London).

Committee Responsibilities: Responsible for the club's major financial decisions, budgeting and reporting. Approves payments for club purchases, liaises with HM Revenue & Customs and presents the club's annual accounts at the annual general meeting.

Other club roles:  Group leader

Alexandra Robins - MEMBERSHIP Secretary
e-mail: [email protected]

Picture
Alex joined PWR in January 2018, having taken up running a year earlier and completing 43 parkruns in that time. She wanted to improve her running and so joined with that goal in mind.

She became a group leader in December 2019 and proudly wore club colours when taking part in 2020's Virtual Virgin Money London Marathon (earning a certificate from Guinness World Records for taking part in the biggest ever mass participation remote marathon!)

Alex loves everything that the club has to offer both socially and for improving running, and values the many opportunities that belonging to a running club brings.

Committee responsibilities: Manage membership subscriptions.

Other club roles: Group leader

nat juCHAU - Women's Captain

Picture
Nat started running in 2006 after she won a London Marathon place with her work and since then hasn’t stopped running!
In 2019 Nat achieved the coveted Abbot World Majors Marathon Six Star medal; London, Berlin, Tokyo, Boston, Chicago and New York.
She joined PWR in October 2020 and was overwhelmed by the club's welcome and inclusive atmosphere. She enjoys meeting up with other PWR members at events running and socials!
In 2023 Nat ran her 100th Marathon to be part of the 100 Marathon Club.

Committee responsibilities:
Point of contact for events, Promote and organise club teams,  Register club teams

kevin howarth - Men's Captain

Picture
Kev joined PWR in January 2016. He didn't start running until he was 37 when his little sister challenged him to run the Fleet half marathon. She won. He has since run a sub 3hr marathon (she hasn't) and is the current Guinness World Record holder for the fastest marathon dribbling 2 basketballs. Kev loves doing canicross with his dog, Edie and particularly enjoys the muddy KFL series of races.

Committee responsibilities:
Point of contact for events, Promote and organise club teams, Register club teams

Other club roles: Group leader  |   Unofficial club photographer
  |   Club social media communications lead

liz squires - Social Secretary

Picture
Liz joined PWR in February 2018,  when a change to homeworking meant she could get to the Tuesday night runs. Last year she started to take part in the KFL’s and Grand prix events and found that although she’s always near the back she loves the challenge and being part of a team (PWR).

She became a group leader in September 2021 and wants to encourage PWR runners from all groups to take part in the organised racing events as she really believes its the taking part that matters and not your finishing time.

Committee responsibilities: Arranging all social events for members

Other club roles: - Group leader

DAVID GROOM - Health and Safety Officer

Picture
Dave joined PWR in 2015 after a 20 year break from running. Dave enjoys running distances up to half marathon, although somewhat restricted in recent years due to ongoing knee injuries.
Dave previously ran for Cambridge Harriers between 1979 and 1994. During this time he ran for England Schoolboys at cross country and had pbs of 32.30 for 10K, 1 hour 14 mins for half marathon and 2 hours 49 mins for the marathon.

Committee responsibilities:
For making vexatious teach-grandma-to-suck-eggs rules about everything, demanding risk assessments from all and sundry, spoiling everybody's enjoyment and being a right pain in the backside.

Other club roles: Welfare Officer

ELEANOR PINKERTON - COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

Picture
Picture
Eleanor joined the club in 2018, when she struggled to run much further than 5k. Three marathons later, it is safe to say that running has changed her life for the better in every possible way (apart from maybe her bank balance).

She has slowly been recruiting fellow family members to join the club and has so far convinced her husband and her son to join. She now just needs to work on her daughter!

She became a group leader in 2020 and joined the Committee in 2026.

Committee responsibilities: Eleanor is responsible for overseeing the club’s digital presence and ensuring clear, consistent communication.

Other club roles: Group leader

Hannah Harrison - WELFARE Officer

Picture
Hannah joined the club in 2013 after completing the beginners course. It was her time to get out of the house after giving birth to her son a few months earlier!
In 2018 Hannah completed the LIRF course and still leads Group 3.
After her wedding day and giving birth to her children; completing the London Marathon in 2025 was one of THE best days of her life! She won a place via the club ballot. The support along the route, especially from PWR was incredible.
She enjoys cheering and supporting fellow runners whatever their pace and also all the social events that PWR has to offer!

Committee responsibilities-

•  Serve as the club’s designated safeguarding lead.
• Handle welfare concerns sensitively and confidentially.
• Maintain safeguarding training and ensure DBS checks are completed.
• Provide guidance to coaches, run leaders, and committee members.
• Promote an inclusive, respectful club culture.
• Liaise with the Health & Safety Officer on safeguarding issues

Other club roles - group leader
Rota manager for group 3
Leader of beginners course

Mike Reeves - head coach

Picture
Mike is a founder member of PWR being one of the twelve to join in on the first night.  He first competed in athletics in 1975 for Bexley AC and after 25 years service to the club was made a life member in 2000. His PBs include a 1:12:56 Half Marathon and a 2:58:06 Marathon.  In 1984 Mike was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis and was told he may never run again.

Mike achieved his first coaching badge in 1986. Mike was proud to be selected as a masseur for the 2012 London Olympics and worked in the Olympic Stadium with the athletics and the basketball arena with the Paralympians.

Committee responsibilities: Responsible for oversight of all coaching activities and group leaders.

presheena howell - committee member

Picture
Picture
In 2011, Presh, probably like you, clocked the swarms of runners on the streets of Petts Wood on a Tuesday and decided to find out more, nervously joining group 1. Some years later she has a few marathons under her belt and her favourite runs are at the track and relay

KAREN CLARK - Committee member

Picture
Picture
Karen has been a member of PWR since 2012, having secured a London Marathon charity place for 2013. A total novice runner to completing a marathon with 12 months.

Karen met her husband, Matt, in 2013 whilst volunteering at the PWR 10k and they married exactly 5 years later. They have completed several races together including two further marathons and enjoy parkrun tourism across the globe.

Karen has been a Group Leader for 10 years, also completing the Leaders in Running and Fitness qualification (LiRF).  She manages the rota for groups 4&5, and has overall management of groups 1-6, ensuring each groups have sufficient leaders per group.

Karen joined the PWR Committee in 2024 to assist with some of the admin duties, booking meeting rooms etc but mainly managing the England Athletics Club Standards and Leaders Affiliation.

She has great organisational skills and is a reliable and valuable member of the club.

Committee responsibilities:
Responsible for some admin duties to the committee.
Monitoring the England Athletics Club Standards.
Group Leader and Rota Manager for Grouos 4&5.
Overseeing and training new leaders for Groups 1-6.

MARK BURGESS - COMMITTEE MEMBER

Picture
Picture
Mark joined in the autumn of 2009 when he realised his dream of running his first marathon as a 50th birthday present to himself would be easier if he trained with a club.

He was the Men’s Club Captain for a year when it was a far less involved role then it is now, and has been putting together the Grand Prix reports for as long as he can remember.

Now retired, he hopes to have more time to give back to what is definitely the very best running club!
